Tilak Nagar Road Dispute Puts Construction Quality in Focus

A dispute over the quality of a newly constructed road in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar has escalated into a political confrontation, with Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal demanding accountability and an investigation into alleged corruption. During an inspection on Monday, Kejriwal claimed that the road surface had been built with poor materials and could be pulled apart by hand.

Kejriwal said the road had been completed only a few days earlier and questioned where the money allocated for the project had gone. He called for those responsible to be identified through a detailed investigation and prosecuted if found guilty. He also contrasted the disputed work with roads built during the AAP’s tenure, saying those projects had five-year guarantees.

The inspection followed a confrontation at the same site on Sunday, when Delhi minister Parvesh Verma was seen in a video appearing to slap a young man identified as Sahib Singh. Kejriwal demanded Verma’s dismissal, arrest and an apology to Delhi residents. Verma rejected the AAP’s account, saying party workers had abused his family and that the circulated video did not show the complete context.

Verma has also accused AAP MLA Jarnail Singh of pressuring Public Works Department engineers and seeking a commission from a contractor. AAP leaders have rejected the allegation. Kejriwal visited the site with Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, Jarnail Singh, national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda and party workers, while Sahib Singh was also present.

The dispute has led to complaints from multiple sides. Delhi Police has filed a non-cognisable report against Verma over the alleged slapping incident and registered an FIR against Jarnail Singh over an allegation of obstructing public servants. Further action on the road quality claims and the confrontation will depend on official inquiries, police findings and legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, disruption costs the global economy an estimated $184 billion a year.Enterprises already own excellent systems of record. What they lack is a system of action.
