In a bid to enhance road safety awareness across Uttar Pradesh, it was announced that the state government had earmarked Rs 100 million for the Transport Corporation. It was mentioned that over 12,000 buses, including those on election duty, would feature slogans and messages advocating safe driving practices.

The decision, which was greenlit in a crucial meeting chaired by the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation and Principal Secretary of Transportation, L Venkateshwarlu, was said to underscore the government?s commitment to prioritising road safety initiatives.

It was stated that the allocated funds, drawn from the Road Safety Fund of the Transport Department, would facilitate the placement of road safety messages on the rear end of all Transport Corporation buses. It was pointed out that with approximately 11,800 buses currently operational, including 2,500 engaged in election duties, the initiative aimed to leverage the extensive reach of public transport to educate citizens about responsible road behaviour.

The state?s proactive stance on road safety was further underscored by its on-going efforts, including the recent observance of Road Safety Fortnight from April 22 to May 4. It was mentioned that during this period, various awareness activities were conducted, including health and eye check-up camps for drivers, installation of retro-reflective tape on vehicles, and educational campaigns targeting youth and two-wheeler riders.

It was highlighted that through a multifaceted approach encompassing infrastructure improvements, awareness drives, and community engagement, Uttar Pradesh was striving to create safer roads and reduce accidents statewide.
