Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to review National Highway and road infrastructure projects. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India presented progress updates and proposals. Ministers directed acceleration of land acquisition, forest clearances, utility shifting and other formalities to expedite delivery. Officials said that since 2014 about 10,204 kilometres of National Highway projects have been awarded and nearly 9,329 kilometres completed, with 606 kilometres approved and 1,010 kilometres completed between April 2025 and May 2026. Investment in state National Highway projects totals about Rs 1.94 trillion (Rs 1.94 tn), including about Rs 234.45 billion (Rs 234.45 bn) in 2025-26. A task force and measures such as royalty-free soil for Greenfield projects and state support for land acquisition were credited with speeding implementation. Under-construction works cited included the Mathura-Bareilly-Sitarganj four-lane project at about Rs 139.8 billion (Rs 139.8 bn) and the Agra-Aligarh four-lane project at around Rs 59.04 billion (Rs 59.04 bn), alongside corridors, ring roads and airport links that will strengthen connectivity across regions. The review highlighted rapid progress in eastern, central and Bundelkhand areas on routes such as Sonauli-Gorakhpur and the Ghazipur-Ballia-Bihar border National Highway. The Ayodhya Ring Road was noted as vital for linking the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and Maharishi Valmiki International Airport while ministers urged transplantation of trees using modern technology. Detailed Project Reports are being prepared for the Ayodhya-Gonda and Rewa-Ranchi four-lane highways and a proposed 742-kilometre four-lane access-controlled corridor from Shamli to Gorakhpur was reviewed. 10 National Highway projects covering around 267 kilometres are under tendering, and additional schemes including ropeway proposals at Vrindavan and Prayagraj are being processed. The meeting concluded with a commitment to coordinated centre–state action to meet timelines and support the state’s ambition to become a one-trillion-dollar economy.
