A district court in Washim has ordered attachment of a toll plaza operated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) after compensation awarded to landowners in a land acquisition dispute remained unpaid. The action followed execution proceedings after a designated arbitration authority reviewed valuation and ordered enhanced compensation for elements of the developed layout. The attachment aims to secure recovery of pending dues.

The dispute concerns land acquired for the Washim bypass on National Highway 161 and a challenge to the compensation calculation. Landowners sought revision from the arbitration authority and, after review, the authority reportedly directed payment of an enhanced amount. The revised sum was not released and petitioners pursued execution before the district court.

The petitioners asked the court to recover outstanding sums by attaching assets under the executing court's jurisdiction and the Principal District Judge accepted that plea. The judge ordered attachment of the Tondgaon-Dhumka toll plaza, which collects toll revenue for the NHAI, as a recovery measure until the award is satisfied. The order enforces the earlier award rather than determining fresh liability.

Legal commentators said execution proceedings are a key mechanism to ensure that compensation orders are implemented when administrative bodies do not comply within prescribed timelines.
