HBL Engg Gains After Rs 314.9 Million Kavach Contract

HBL Engineering added two point three six per cent to Rs 736.40 after it received a contract worth Rs 314.9 million (mn) from the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of on-board Kavach loco equipment, version four point zero. Trading volumes reacted modestly as investors priced in the order's contribution to the company's railway electronics segment.

The contract is scheduled to be completed on or before 31 March 2028, the company said in a regulatory filing. The company stated that the contract was awarded by a domestic entity and that neither its promoters nor promoter group entities have any interest in the awarding authority, and that the transaction did not qualify as a related party transaction. The filing emphasised compliance with regulatory and corporate governance norms in relation to procurement disclosures.

HBL Engineering, formerly known as HBL Power Systems, manufactures batteries including lead acid, NiCad, silver zinc and lithium, and produces railway and defence electronics and other specialised products. The company reported a 41.8 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 637.5 million (mn) on a 27.0 per cent increase in revenue from operations to Rs 6.0412 billion (bn) in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026 over the same quarter a year earlier. The company supplies components and systems to commercial and defence customers and cited its engineering capabilities in disclosures.

The award and the financials underline the company's focus on railway electronics and related systems and are likely to support ongoing business visibility over the contract period. The contract completion timeline and the regulatory disclosure were presented as part of routine compliance and market communication by the company.
