K-RIDE trains employees to handle health emergencies

Following the suit of Namma Metro stations, Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project stations started training their employees on CPR, first aid, AEDs, and height safety. The training session was conducted by K-RIDE.They also made Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) available.

K-RIDE completed a thorough training session for cops and staff as a prelude to the installation of AEDs at stations. Dr. HD Chandrashekar, Principal, Institute of Occupational Health and Industrial Safety, led the training session. K-RIDE representatives were trained on how to operate AEDs, detect heart attack warning signals, and handle emergencies. Additional training sessions included electrical shocks, fire safety, and burns. The seminar was attended by about 140 staff members and employees. Authorities were taught to make sure guardrails protected workers during height safety training. If guardrails are not available, authorities are required to offer a travel restraint system, a fall-restricting system, a fall-arrest system, or a safety net.

According to the report, activists lauded the training program. Rajkumar Dugar, the Convenor of Citizens for Citizens, stated that Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) should be included in all high-footfall places, such as metro stations, BSRP stations, and BMTC stations. He emphasised that this is vital in a city like Bengaluru, where even medical help could be affected by traffic problems. However, Dugar noted that there should be a proper protocol in place for the usage, placement, and accessibility of AEDs. He explained that AEDs are only useful if they are used within the first four to five minutes after a heart attack.
