Andhra governor gives status of key urban projects

Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan informed the state legislative assembly that the Nagole-Mettuguda segment of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project would be completed by 2014-end, well ahead of the schedule. Narasimhan said that work was “progressing briskly” on all segments of the project, being implemented for a length of 71 km. He said the cost of the project is revised to Rs 14,132 crore. The Rs 6,786 crore Outer Ring Road project is progressing well and the concerned authority has expedited work on the 158-km long project, he said. Similarly, Phase III of the Krishna Drinking Water Scheme (cost Rs. 1,670 crore) was being speeded up. Likewise, works were progressing on Phase I of the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme taken up to bring 172 million gallons per day to the city. An Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) would be developed with the establishment of IT units over an area of 202 sq. km in and around Hyderabad (Urban) and Ranga Reddy districts, he said.
