HD-BRTS to acquire entire land by September

The Hubli Dharwad Bus Rapid Transport System (HD-BRTS) is in the process of acquiring land for the proposed project in the twin cities of Karnataka.

According to the initial assessment, the estimated land requirement for the project is around 63 acre, and of this 16 acre of government land is already available.

The acquisition of the remaining land is likely to be completed by September end, Commissioner of Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) V Manjula informed reporters.

She further said that joint measurement is underway in three villages along the BRTS corridor namely Amaragol, Rayapur and Sattur.

The project authority has formed a negotiation committee for land acquisition and deputy commissioner of Dharwad will be its chairman.

Meanwhile, Manjula said steps would be taken to ensure that the HD-BRTS will be an environmentally sensitive project. In order to carry out eco-friendly project, Green BRTS committee has been set up.

Recently, officials of the World Bank and Sustainable Urban Transport Project of Government of India held a meeting with local authorities to review progress of the project.
