The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has stepped in to accelerate the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the corporation of which has already acquired 50 per cent of the 10,840 hectare required for the project, but the PMO is keen on preventing further delays. DFCC has set a new deadline of December 2016 for the completion of the eastern corridor – Ludhiana to Dankuni. The western corridor – Dadri to Jawaharlal Nehru Port – is expected to be ready by March 2017. Touted as the biggest infrastructure project, its cost is estimated to be Rs 77,000 crore.
