The work on the Rs 1, 000 crore commercial port to be built at Ponnani in Malappuram district has been formally kicked off. The port, being built by Malabar Port in partnership with the state government, is expected to be operational in three years. The government has leased 29 acre to the Ponnani Port, which will pay an annual royalty to the government for 30 years.
