Adani Launches First Double Stack Rail Between Gujarat And Haryana

Adani Logistics Ltd has introduced its maiden double stack rake service, linking the inland container depot (ICD) at Tumb in Vapi, Gujarat, with ICD Patli in Haryana.

The two tier container trains dramatically raise cargo volume per journey, lifting operational efficiency while cutting transit times, carbon emissions and logistics costs for shippers moving between the manufacturing hubs of Vapi, Silvassa and Daman and the consumption centres of Delhi NCR, Haryana and Punjab.

A senior company executive said the service would “accelerate India’s supply chain advantage” by delivering faster, greener and more economical freight. The corridor is expected to ease road congestion, trim emissions by up to 30 per cent per container and smooth export import flows through western ports such as Mundra and Hazira. Industries in southern Gujarat and northern India—particularly textiles, pharmaceuticals, electronics and chemicals—stand to benefit from greater speed, reliability and scale.

With India seeking to lower logistics costs from about 14 per cent to under 10 per cent of GDP, innovations like double stack rail are viewed as essential. For Adani Logistics, which already runs a nationwide network of multimodal parks, ICDs and warehouses, the Tumb Patli service signals its intent to knit together the country’s manufacturing base with its consumer heartland as freight demand grows.
