Indian Railways has taken a significant stride towards achieving its goal of becoming a Net Zero Carbon Emitter by 2030 by selecting Central Railways as the leading agency to procure wind energy for the entire railway network in India. This move aims to expedite the transition to sustainable power sources. According to an official notification, the Railway Board has designated Central Railway as the Nodal Railway responsible for executing a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with M/s NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd. This agreement will secure a 500 MW power supply for the railway network. Central Railway is currently in the final stages of negotiating the PPA with NREL, and the plant is expected to commence operations within the next two years.
