The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor is set to be operational by December 2029, with the Gujarat stretch from Vapi to Sabarmati expected by December 2027, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Lok Sabha. Spanning 508 km across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, the Rs 1.08 lakh crore project is 81 per cent funded by JICA. As of June 2025, Rs 78,839 crore has been spent. All 1,389.5 hectares of land in Maharashtra have been acquired, and work is progressing on piers, girders, and a 21-km undersea tunnel. The project includes 12 stations.
