Corporation ropes in UPL for solid waste project

Berhampur Municipal Corporation roped in United Phosphorous (UPL), which quoted the lowest amount, for the Rs 70-crore solid waste management project (SWMP). The project to be implemented in public-private and partnership (PPP) mode would process the solid waste generated in the city. The city generates around 138 tonne of sold waste daily. The civic body is awaiting the approval of the state government for implementing the project. The ULP is implementing SWMPs in some major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai and Coimbatore. Within two years of signing the agreement, ULP will have to implement the project. The civic body has appointed International Finance Corporation (IFC), a World Bank group, as transaction advisor to develop the scientific waste management project. Corporation Commissioner Ajit Mishra said the implementation of the project would ensure a clean and hygienic environment in Berhampur like any other developed cities in the country.
