Emerson Cup 2010 Winners Announced

The Emerson Cup is an annual award function that recognises and rewards innovative and energy efficient designs and buildings across India and South East Asia.

The Emerson Cup is an annual event instituted by Emerson Climate Technologies to recognise outstanding innovations and energyefficient designs in the airconditioning and refrigeration industry. The competition, held for the last seven years in China, completed its third consecutive year in India and Southeast Asia this year. The gala awards night in October saw esteemed industry stalwarts announce the Excellence and Honorary award winners across categories.

Speaking on the occasion, Giovanni Zullo, VP Marketing & Product Planning, Emerson Climate Technologies, said, “The HVAC industry in particular makes a significant contribution to the green building movement on the fronts of energy efficiency and indoor air quality. In this area, Emerson is deeply engaged not only in the development of energy  efficient technologies but also in supporting the process of adoption. The Emerson Cup is an initiative to recognise the leadership, innovation and courage to drive change, by individuals and their organisations, giving creative designers an opportunity and an incentive to showcase their work.”

The Emerson Cup 2010 had launched awards in five categories, namely:

1. New building
2. Special applications
3. Retail and refrigeration
4. Retrofit
5. Students  Engineering and Architecture

The Excellence Award for the New Buildings Category (residential and commercial buildings) was given to Clancy Global for La Residency, Thane, Mumbai, while the Honorary award was bagged by Venkataramanan Associates for KBL  Yamuna, Pune. The Special Applications Excellence Award was presented to Sanjay Prakash & Associates for Banjar Tola, Kanha, while the Honorary award was presented to Pankaj Dharkar for their URL Biotech Research Centre, Ahmedabad. The Retail and Refrigeration category witnessed a high number of unique nominations, in which Dr. R Sarvanan from Anna University, Chennai, won the Excellence award, followed by ACR Porject Consultants for Colour Film Vaults for National Film Archives, Prasar Bharti  All India Radio. In the Retrofit category, the Excellence awardwinner was The Galen, Singapore project while Pankaj Dharkar won another Honorary award for Cadila Health Care Ltd.

The students’ category invited ideas from students for reducing carbon footprint of their institutes or college buildings. Engineering student Wilson Montereo from De La Salle University, Philippines and a group of Architecture students from Dr. Bhanuben Nanavati College of Architecture for Women, India won the Students’ Cup.

Overwhelmed by the response, Shrikant Bapat, Managing Director, Emerson Climate Technologies (India) Ltd., said “Emerson believes in energy responsibility and we do our bit by recognising green buildings across Asia. The Emerson Cup has gained a lot of traction in Indian industry over three years. The Emerson Cup jury was impressed with the quality of entries received this year.” He added, “This was a proud moment for Emerson and we look forward to continue to build momentum in the coming years.”

The Emerson Cup saw a phenomenal rise in entries this year, with triple the number of main category entries; the Students’ category grew seven times. All projects were judged by an independent and international panel of judges from India, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
