Metal Buildings & Steel Structures Expo 2012

The Metal Buildings & Steel Structures (MBSS) Expo 2012 revisited the issue of the use of steel in construction.

BSS‘12, India’s biggest event on steel structures and allied products, was organised in Mumbai recently in mid April, 2012. Organised by INIS Enterprises Pvt Ltd, a Mumbai-based exhibition organising company, the event was inaugurated by Chief Guest and architect, Hafeez Contractor, and Special Guest Anshul Singhal, Director, JSW Severfield Structures Ltd, Shireesh Wagh, Ex-Director, Jindal Steel International Marketing and Sadia Shaikh, CEO, INIS Enterprises Pvt Ltd.

Doing justice to its aim of being an international event on modern methods for fast track construction, MBSS continued to attract the support of key industry associations – Institute for Steel Development and Growth, Indian Association of Structural Engineers, Steel Wire Manufacturers Association of India and other influential trade bodies that have pledged their support to this industry initiative. The ‘gold partner’ for the event was Jindal Steel & Power Ltd.

A roundtable conference was also hosted alongside the expo on April 13. Deloitte, a global consulting organisation was the ‘knowledge associate’ for the event. The theme of the conference was ‘Steel Structures in India – An Opportunity to Evolve’. The discussion brought in key insights on how the steel structures industry in India is emerging towards offering end-to-end solutions to customers. The discussion deliberated on three different segments: buildings, PEBs and infrastructure, and on the following topics: ‘Is the industry moving towards providing an end-to-end solution? Do PEB players have the capability of providing complete steel solutions for every end-application? And evolution in contracting model (onsite vs. workshop fabrication)’.
