Kolkata's Rajarhat, New Town top realty search list

Rajarhat and New Town — both on the northern fringes of Kolkata city — are the most searched destinations of 2012. According to a study of real estate search trends by 99acres.com, an online portal, both Rajarhat and New Town continued to top buyer’s fancies last year.

Other areas that were preferred include, EM Bypass and Salt Lake in the East; Tollygunge, Garia, Kasba and Behala in the South; and Baguihati, Barasaat, Lake Town, VIP Road and Dum Dum in the North.

According to a release by 99acres, Rajarhat has been booming primarily because financially independent people are looking to move into larger properties. Development of civic infrastructure in the region has aided growth. In terms of properties for rent , Salt Lake – on the eastern fringe – featured as the most preferable destination.

New Town, Tollygunge, Rajarhat, Gariahat too were popular localities to rent homes.
