Kolkata's roads to get new names

Kolkata's major roads will be named after prominent personalities and luminaries. The road renaming committee of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has finalised the names which will be announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. While in the north, the stretch between Chitpore bridge till Cossipore Road (No.56) will be named as Sri Ramakrishna Sarani, Lake Terrace, in the south, will take the name of Debabrata Biswas Sarani. Broad Street and Bardhaman Road in Alipore will be renamed as Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sarani and Pandit Ravi Shankar Sarani respectively.

Creek Row will be named as Sir Nilratan Sircar Sarani and Deshapriya Park Road as Shyamal Mitra Sarani. Besides, a stretch of Southern Avenue leading to Lake Gardens flyover will take the name of famous Bengali director Debaki Kumar Bose while Block A of Kanungo Park in Garia will be renamed Ashapurna Devi Sarani. Also, Rajdanga Road off EM Bypass will be named Salil Chowdhury Sarani, Kalakar Street as Rammonohar Sarani and New Park Street as Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan Sarani.
