NHAI seeking consultant for city logistics parks

The road ministry and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) are working on the proposal to set up logistics parks, announced in the recent Budget. The government is drawing up a proposal to set up warehousing zones on the outskirts of major cities through public private partnerships. The NHAI, which would be the implementation agency for these parks, had made a presentation to the ministry on the need for engaging a consultant, as per reports. These logistics parks are expected to benefit steel, cement and consumer goods companies the most. Further, the parks are expected could bring down logistics costs by about 50 per cent.

Reports indicate that the Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has proposed Nagpur as the site for the country’s first logistics park The Indian logistics industry is expected to be worth $307 billion by 2020 as the site for the country’s first logistics park. 

According to reports, the Indian logistics industry is expected to be worth $307 billion by 2020. India spends around 14.4 per cent of its GDP on logistics and transportation against less than 8 per cent spent by other developing countries.
