Police suggest 4-point solution to Delhi traffic problems

Delhi police have proposed a four-point proposal to decongest the stretch of NH-8 in the city due to major traffic snarls being faced by commuters because of construction of the Airport Express line along the arterial highway. The plan, submitted to Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Centre (UTTIPEC) after a careful traffic study of the area, suggests the construction of a one-way flyover, two rotaries and widening of the road. Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla said that they have submitted such a plan to UTTIPEC for its perusal and aid.

Following the construction of the Metro line huge traffic snarls had been reported on the arterial highway as it cut into the main carriageway, reducing the road width of the corridor from seven lanes near the Dhaula Kuan Metro station to just 2.5 lanes in front of Subroto Park crossing. Peak hour jams became terrible on the stretch as there was a funnel effect near Subroto Park and RR Hospital due to the reduction in road width, sat traffic police.

Traffic police has suggested the construction of a one-way flyover for traffic moving from Gurgaon towards Dhaula Kuan. This would allow traffic to skip two red lights at Subroto Park and Station Road crossings. The situation is now so difficult that traffic personnel have to constantly operate the red light on a manual basis, said a traffic police officer of the area.
