Urban transport project opportunities in India

The concept of Rapid Transit System is gaining popularity in India with many cities implementing monorail, metro rail, Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) projects to upgrade their transportation infrastructure. The first rapid transit system in India was the Kolkata Metro, which started operations in 1984. Hubli Dharwad BRTS Company plans to implement a BRTS project in the twin city in Karnataka and plans to conduct a study in this regard. The company is looking to engage a consultant for this study. Bus Rapid Transit is the name given to sophisticated bus systems that have their own lanes on city streets. These systems use bus stations instead of bus stops, a design feature that allows passengers to pay before boarding the bus. In another development, Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation plans to engage a contractor for construction and maintenance work of Integrated or Multi Model Bus Terminal at Sindhi Camp at Jaipur. Meanwhile, Delhi Metro Rail Project, is looking out for a contractor who can supply, install, test and commission ballastiess track of standard gauge in Kalandi Kunj depot. This work is part of phase -III of Delhi MRTS project.
