World Bank keen to aid Mizoram road to link 2 countries

The World Bank has expressed interest to fund the Mizoram State Road Project Phase II (MSRP-II). The road project is aimed at boosting better link between Mizoram and its two neigbouring countries-Bangladesh and Myanmar. With the World Bank officials, Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla had a meeting in Aizawal on November 8 to discuss the construction of link roads for better connection within the state and with the neigbouring countries. As per the media reports, the World Bank funded road project will be carried out in two groups. Group I includes Champhai – Zokhawthar Road (28 km), Lunglei – Tlabung – Kawrpuichhuah Road (112 km) and Chhumkhum – Chawngte (45 km) while Group II includes NH 44A – Buarpui (82 kms), Buarpui – Thenhlum – Zawlpui (95 km) and Chawngte – Multi Modal Project Road (76 km). Construction will be started first with the roads under Group I.
