'Rail' to go!
Urvinder Pal Singh Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA), is one of the vital people responsible for improving the transport infrastructure projects in the city. Its recent mega project - the Mumbai Monorail has been completed. Scheduled for inauguration on February 1, 2014, this is the first phase and will travel from Chembur to Wadala. Working behind the scenes, Madan was appointed as the Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA last year. Since then, he has fast-tracked several transport projects such as the Mumbai Metro, and Santacruz-Chembur Link Road. He has a rich experience in urban infrastructure, having worked as the Commissioner of the Kalyan Municipal Corporation, Project Director in MMRDA, Vice President & CEO of Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA) and Project Manager, Mumbai Transformation Support Unit, an initiative of the World Bank.
