Output of Coal India Ltd (CIL), led by S Narsing Rao, Managing Director, in this financial year is set to rise to a five-year high. The company, ready to hit the market with its mega Rs 20,000-crore share sale later this year, is expected to exceed its production target of 482 million tonne for this financial year, against production of 452 mt in 2012-13. In 2013-14, CIL's growth will be more than 6.7 per cent. The last time growth exceeded 6 per cent was in 2009-10. Rao is the driving force behind CIL just as he was, when he assumed the role of Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh government-controlled Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL). He is the first non-CIL nominee to assume the top job, and has driven SCCL's production of 36 million tonne in 2006 to 53 million tonne in 2011-12.
