Chhattisgarh has formally joined the -UDAY-scheme for revival of debt-laden discoms. The scheme is optional and can be operationalised by signing a pact between states, state discoms and the Centre. Aimed at reviving ailing state electricity boards and operational efficiencies of power distribution companies, the scheme envisages reducing interest burden, cost of power and AT&C losses. The states of Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have already communicated their in-principle approval to the Power Ministry for the scheme.
