The Orissa Government is hopeful of producing 427 MW more hydro power through mini units in the next five years following the hurdles in setting up a 320 MW Sindol hydro power project with the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC). It plans to produce 427 MW hydel power through at least 33 proposed mini hydel projects in the private sector.
The state government's plan to set up the Sindol project as a joint venture at an investment of Rs 2,600 crore hit roadblock after the local people feared that their houses and agricultural land would be submerged if the project came off.
