PGCIL to set up first 1,200 kV test station

Power Grid Corp (PGCIL) will launch a 1,200 kV ultra-high voltage (UHV) test station along with experimental lines, with an investment of Rs 800 crore in Bina, Madhya Pradesh. The company is also setting up a 1,200 kV transmission line for commercial purpose, which will be constructed between Wardha and Aurangabad in Maharashtra. Till now, the power is transmitted on 765 kV or 800 kV lines. The existing 400 kV line can transfer about 600 MW power, 800 kV line can do between 1,200 MW and 2,400 MW and 1,200 kV transfers 6,000-8,000 MW.
