SAIL to invest Rs 20,000 cr in state

Steel Authority of India (SAIL), reiterated its commitment to invest more than Rs 20,000 crore in West Bengal, which includes ongoing modernisation and expansion programs at the Indian Iron and Steel Company (IISCO) plant in Burnpur, Durgapur Steel Plant and Alloy Steel Plant. IISCO's modernisation, with the latest state-of-the-art technology, is in the advanced stage
of implementation. SAIL's 2.5 mn tonne plant at Burnpur, at an estimated cost of Rs 16,000 crore, is expected to be complete by June 2012. The company will invest Rs 3,000 crore in the Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) and Rs 1,000 crore for the Alloy Steel Plant.
