The Tekla name is going to be retained in the product

- Nirmalya Chatterjee, Executive Director & COO, Trimble Buildings (SAARC)

Trimble acquired Tekla in 2011, and Tekla Corporation transitioned to the Trimble brand this month. The rebranding reflects both the evolution of Trimble as well as its vision for the future. (Left) Nirmalya Chatterjee, Executive Director & COO, Trimble Buildings (SAARC) and (Right) Sampo Pilli-Sihvola, Director, Precast, Tekla Corporation share more on the transition in conversation with SHRIYAL SETHUMADHAVAN.

What would the company portfolio comprise now?
Chatterjee:
Earlier our focus was on the structural part of it. But now, with Trimble Solution, we are covering the end-to-end part of it. Then we are going to have MEP solutions. We are also going to have construction management, project management, project collaborations as well as operation and maintenance. So that´s the whole part of technology solution that we are offering under Trimble Solution India. However, the Tekla name is going to be retained in the product. We are only changing the company name.

How about training people?
Chatterjee:
We earlier launched the Tekla Centre of Excellence, which will now be converted into Trimble Centre of Excellence and we are associating with many prestigious institutes such as IIT Chennai to create a Trimble Lab within the institute. Students are going to be trained there itself. Additionally, professionals can get their skills enhanced. We have our own offices and franchise, training centres and facilities, to conduct our training.

Tell us about the role of precast in India?
Pilli-Sihvola:
In India, the precast technology is quite new and requires different kinds of process in construction. Precast is more known as a method and you need some equipment to provide precast elements. And then, if we are willing to go more automated, you have to invest through factories. The top benefits of precast include fast building, accuracy, waste saving, and you do not have to deal with traffic as much, because you are sending less things to the site, etc.
