Cement sales spike on strong demand from realty cos

Cement companies continued the sales momentum in February, thanks to better demand from stockists and real-estate companies. However, dispatches were marginally lower, on a sequential basis, as a result of the hike in prices. Companies hiked prices by Rs 8-15 a bag in February. Increase in production cost, after Coal India raised its contract prices by 30 per cent, also prompted cement companies to hike prices.
