Ambuja Cement Foundation’s Dadri Team Receives An Award

The Rotary Club of Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, honoured the Ambuja Cement Foundation (ACF) team for their excellent contributions to water, sanitation, and hygiene activities throughout the years.

Ambuja Cement Foundation (ACF) is Ambuja Cements Limited's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm. The Dadri team has been working in the areas of agro-based livelihood, education, women empowerment, sanitation, and hygiene for the past 15 years.

Under the category of Water and Sanitation, ACF has been promoting the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) model in the area's core communities as well as in schools. Water conservation, water testing, the installation of hand pumps, and the construction of toilets are all part of community awareness initiatives.

Three hand pumps were erected as part of these efforts, benefiting over 700 community members, 350 women were taught proper hand washing techniques, and five main communities are now "Open Defecation Free."

Despite the pandemic, ACF’s health workers (Sakhis) have been working rigorously to reach out to maximum persons. This transformation is already being seen with community members making efforts towards water, sanitation and hygiene. ACF also harnessed the flipbook platform to spread awareness messages about COVID-19 via WhatsApp and post the lockdown, personally went door to door in communities to engage with people.

Ms Pearl Tiwari, Director & CEO, Ambuja Cement Foundation said, “Rotary has been one of our long-standing partners and we are humbled by this recognition provided to ACF’s team in Dadri. This is a testament to the untiring efforts of our teams, the total participation from our communities and the constant need to improve on our own targets.”

ACF also performs gap analyses throughout schools and communities as part of the WASH strategy to ensure that everyone has access to safe drinking water and functioning toilet facilities. It also promotes hygiene education for both children and adults, including regular handwashing to avoid illness transmission.

Such actions are critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
