Mines Ministry Hosts Roadshow for Critical Minerals Auction

The Ministry of Mines on Wednesday successfully organised a Roadshow for the Sixth Tranche of the Auction of Critical and Strategic Mineral Blocks in New Delhi. The event was chaired by Piyush Goyal, Secretary, Ministry of Mines, and attended by senior ministry officials, state representatives, industry leaders, exploration agencies, and potential bidders.

Launched on 16 September 2025, Tranche VI features 23 mineral blocks — comprising 19 Composite Licences and 4 Mining Leases — across 13 Indian states. These include minerals such as Rare Earth Elements, Rare Metals, Tungsten, Lithium, Niobium, Tin, Graphite, Titanium, Vanadium, and Phosphate, all vital to renewable energy, electric mobility, defence manufacturing, and high-technology industries.

The first five tranches together saw over 34 critical mineral blocks auctioned, marking a major stride in India’s mineral security and industrial resilience.

Delivering the welcome address, Sanjay Lohiya, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines, reiterated the government’s commitment to a transparent, investor-friendly, and efficient auction process.

In his keynote address, Piyush Goyal highlighted that the government’s vision extends beyond auction facilitation to developing indigenous technologies for beneficiation and processing of critical minerals, as well as nurturing industries that rely on these resources. He said these integrated efforts are crucial to establishing a resilient and self-reliant value chain for critical minerals in India.

Goyal underscored that, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government remains focused on inclusive growth, transparent resource management, and accountable utilisation, contributing significantly to the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047. He also praised the success of earlier tranches and described Tranche VI as a well-structured framework to align India’s mineral strategy with national and global demand.

The roadshow included detailed presentations on geological assessments, resource potential, technical frameworks, auction processes, bid submission guidelines, financial aspects, and e-auction platform demonstrations. A live Q&A session allowed participants to discuss topics such as exploration incentives, digital bidding procedures, and reimbursement schemes for Composite Licence blocks.

The sale of tender documents for Tranche VI began on 23 September 2025 and will close on 24 November 2025, with bid submissions due by 1 December 2025.

Through initiatives such as Tranche VI, the Government of India continues to strengthen self-reliance in critical minerals, reduce import dependency, and secure the country’s strategic position in the global mineral supply chain.
