NTPC Q2 Power Generation Grows 13 Per Cent to 118 bn Units

NTPC reported a 13 per cent year-on-year increase in power generation to 117.9 bn units in the July-September quarter, compared with 104.4 bn units in the corresponding period a year earlier. The increase was recorded during the second quarter of FY27.

Coal dispatch also rose during the quarter. Dispatch stood at 11.899 mn t, compared with 9.260 mn t in Q2 FY26, representing a year-on-year increase of 28.45 per cent.

The company’s power trading volume increased 22 per cent to 15.06 bn units in Q2 FY27 from 12.34 bn units in the year-ago period. NTPC attributed the performance across generation, coal dispatch and power trading to sustained operational efficiency.

NTPC operates under the Ministry of Power and is India’s largest power generation company. It caters to about one-fourth of the country’s energy demand, according to the company.

NTPC has an installed capacity of more than 91 GW. Capacity equivalent to a further 35 per cent is under construction, supporting the company’s plans to expand its generation base. The quarterly increase in generation, together with higher coal dispatch and trading volumes, reflects growth across its principal operating activities.
