GAIL to commission Dabhol-Bengaluru pipeline by March 2012

GAIL India is likely to finish the construction of its 1,370 km gas pipeline from Dabhol in Maharashtra to Bengaluru in Karnataka by March 2012. The trunk pipeline will extend from Dabhol and pass through Kinjalkarvadi, Kasari river bank, Kharaklat, Tappalkatti Harva forest, Gadag, Gannaikanahalli, Gullur, Sarajapur, Palmaner, Chittor, Kattivakkam, before terminating in Chennai. The $ 1.1 billion pipeline will supply gas to fertiliser and power plants coming up near Bangalore and Mangalore in Karnataka and Goa. To process the imported gas, terminals are being constructed in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Kerala. The company plans to connect households in 201 cities in India with piped natural gas by 2015.
