GAIL to Supply Natural Gas to Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur Plant

GAIL (India) Ltd has signed an agreement with Tata Steel to supply natural gas to the steelmaker’s Combi-Mill plant in Jamshedpur, marking its largest industrial customer onboarding under its city gas distribution (CGD) network.

Initially, GAIL will supply 31,000 standard cubic metres per day (SCMD) of natural gas until March 2026, with volumes increasing to 43,000 SCMD thereafter. The supply will commence by the end of September through a newly commissioned 23 km pipeline.

The agreement falls under GAIL’s CGD projects in East Singhbhum and reflects growing industrial adoption of cleaner fuel alternatives. Gauri Shankar Mishra, General Manager and GA in-charge at GAIL, said the collaboration underscores GAIL’s commitment to sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions.
