Intermittent power disruption that plagues the Madhyamgram-Barasat belt will cease once a 132 kV sub-station lying dormant for years will become operational early next year. The sub-station was constructed seven years ago but could not be used as villagers, inspired by the movement against farmland acquisition in Singur, refused to allow power lines to be drawn over their land until the government paid compensation.
