Mercure Hyderabad KCP launches Solar Energy Initiative

Mercure Hyderabad KCP has inaugurated a Solar Hot Water Systemunder Planet 21 initiative at the hotel – an initiative towards sustainable development. The installation of the solar hot water system is a step towards producing renewable power and protecting the environment.

The hotel has installed the solar panels across a 98-sq-m space on the rooftop, generating 10 KL of water per day, to power a solar water heating requirements of its entire 128 rooms. The solar panels will generate 30 kW power per hour reducing dependence on conventional energy sources and maximising use of solar to take care of hotel requirements. This step will help in controlling the global warming and the risk of the short circuit is also reduced to minimal.

The solar hot water system will reduce the hot water energy consumption and will save approximately 180 units per day, which equals to the average cost savings of Rs 566,000 per year. This step was taken as a part of Planet 21 program.

Planet 21as a program focuses on the need to protect the planet, the people and the environment. It includes 21 commitments towards nature, health, energy and more. Every 21st of April, Accor’s employees around the globe join together and organize actions to support the Planet 21 program. This year Mercure has launched the solar power plant as a part of the Planet 21 initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Dinesh Rai, General Manager, Mercure Hyderabad KCP, said “At Mercure Hyderabad KCP, we are committed for the sustainable growth and development of the planet. This initiative is s step to reduce our carbon foot prints and become energy-efficient. With the installation of solar hot water system we will reduce our dependence on conventional power sources and switch to renewable sources. We are happy to install the solar hot water system at our hotel under Planet 21 programme.”

Moreover, Mercure Hyderabad KCP has taken a few more steps to save the eco-system and is planning to set up a bio gas plant soon, which will recycle the waste produced at the property and use as fuel in the kitchen.
