August Energy And Energeia Launch USD 100 Million Efficiency Fund

Singapore-headquartered August Energy and Indian firm Energeia have launched August Energeia, a dedicated infrastructure platform backed by institutional investors and targeting energy efficiency projects across India. The partners have set a USD 100 mn target to finance and deliver infrastructure with an initial emphasis on Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) for commercial and industrial customers. The alliance is structured to remove upfront capital barriers that have limited adoption of efficiency and decarbonisation solutions.

August Energy will supply institutional capital alongside techno-commercial structuring and business development capabilities while Energeia will provide energy auditing, engineering execution and on-ground sales expertise. The platform will aggregate capital from European, Japanese and Asian institutional investors including Aravest, Green Tower, Proparco, responsAbility and Aseem to develop projects at scale. Energeia will also deploy its IoT-enabled energy audit capabilities and an AI-enabled digital platform to manage project portfolios.

Operating under an energy-as-a-service (EaaS) model, the platform will finance, implement and manage upgrades covering cooling, heating, steam, compressed air, fuel switching and motor-driven systems as well as renewable deployments such as solar, wind and energy storage. Project economics will be linked to performance and energy savings so customers can shift infrastructure spending from high-risk capital expenditure to performance-linked operating expenditure. The model is intended to preserve customer capital and to reduce operating costs and emissions over asset life.

August Energeia plans to target energy-intensive sectors including pharmaceuticals, automotive, food and beverage, chemicals, cement, steel, hospitality, healthcare, data centres, real estate investment trusts and commercial property. The partners expect the combination of institutional capital, infrastructure ownership and ongoing energy management to help turn energy savings into a bankable revenue stream and to develop energy efficiency as an investable asset class across India. The platform aims to scale deployment while providing customers with a pathway to decarbonise facilities and improve resilience.
