Jayakwadi Hydro Plant Shut Since Dec 2023 for Repairs

The 12 MW hydroelectric plant at Jayakwadi dam, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, has been offline since December 2023 due to turbine vibration issues.

Officials say continued use could damage machinery. Three firms have submitted maintenance bids, which are under review by MAHAGENCO.

The plant’s fast response—ready in 5 minutes—and low cost (50.56 paisa per unit) make it valuable for peak demand. Water used in the process is also pumped back into the reservoir.
