Karnataka Wins Award for Highest Under-Construction Wind Capacity

Karnataka has received a national award for having the country’s highest under-construction wind power capacity, measured at 9 GW. The recognition was presented at Windergy India 2026, held at the Chennai Trade Centre on 9 October.

Divya Prabhu GRJ, managing director of the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development (KREDL), received the award from Pralhad Joshi, Union minister for new and renewable energy. The presentation took place during the eighth edition of Windergy India, which was organised by the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association.

Karnataka Energy and Tourism Minister KJ George said the award reflected the State’s commitment to clean energy and its sustained efforts to attract investment in renewable energy projects. He said the recognition demonstrated Karnataka’s progress in creating an enabling environment for clean energy development and expanding its wind power pipeline.

Gaurav Gupta, additional chief secretary in the Energy Department, said the department would work with KREDL and other stakeholders to support the timely execution of projects. The department’s coordination with developers and industry participants is intended to help ensure that projects under construction are completed according to schedule.

Windergy India 2026 brought together delegates, government representatives and industry participants for an international exhibition and a series of conferences. The programme also included live demonstrations, business and government meetings, and an academia forum focused on developments across the wind energy sector.

The event attracted more than 3,000 global delegates and dignitaries. Karnataka’s award highlights the scale of its current wind energy pipeline as the State seeks to strengthen renewable power generation and encourage further investment in clean energy infrastructure.
