Ambuja Cements is acquiring 83 per cent stake in Sanghi Industries for Rs.50 billion. This marks Ambuja's first acquisition post-September ownership change. Sanghi Industries, based in Gujarat, has clinker and cement capacity of 6.6 MTPA and 6.1 MTPA respectively, plus 1 billion tonne limestone reserves, a captive jetty and a power plant. Ambuja plans to boost Sanghi's capacity to 15 MTPA in two years and expand captive ports for larger 8,000 DWT vessels. The strategy is to produce cost-effective clinker in Sanghipuram, transport clinker and cement via coastal route to Saurashtra, South Gujarat, Mumbai, Karnataka and Kerala.
