Bihar may adopt open access for power

Bihar is likely to adopt open access for power as the state cabinet allowed the restructuring of Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) by way of its division into five companies. Under the restructuring plan, distribution sector would be hived off to private companies through an auction. The companies are likely to be given strict targets to reduce distribution losses in a specific timeframe. Besides, these companies will have to provide the same standard of service to consumers, in both, urban and rural areas.
