Urban amenities to four Karnataka cities at Rs 450 cr

Karnataka government would take up several urban development works in Mangalore, Udupi, Puttur and Kundapur under the second phase of Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environmental Management Project (Kudcemp) at a cost of Rs 450 crore. The Project would be taken up with a loan from the Asian Development Bank, said the State Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake on August 12.

The Minister said this after the tri-monthly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting in Udupi. He said the drinking water, underground drainage and other basic infrastructure, which were incomplete in the first phase, would be completed in the second phase.

Udupi, Kundapur and Saligrama towns would be supplied drinking water from the nearby rivers, he added. Udupi is getting drinking water from Swarna River but the water supply from the river is inadequate. Therefore the government was thinking of providing water from Varahi River to Udupi, the Minister added.
