Under the brilliant leadership of KNM Rao, Vice President & Business Unit Head (Hydro and Underground Works), Afcons Infrastructure, the company has successfully completed the 7.78 km long double tunnel at Vasala near Igatpuri on the border of Nashik and Thane districts, along the Mumbai-Nagpur Greenfield Expressway. Of the six tunnels on the route, it is the longest and widest highway in Maharashtra. The three lane double tunnel is 7.78 km on the left, 7.74 km on the right and is 35 m wide. The tunnel has a lifespan of 100 years due to the ‘New Australian Tunnelling Method’ also known as the ‘design as you go’ method. Despite COVID-19, this remarkable feat was achieved by Rao’s team of 2000 employees. Hats off to Rao for the Twin Tunnel!
