India to Operationalise 47 New National Waterways by 2027
India aims to operationalise 76 National Waterways by 2027, with 47 new additions and cargo volumes expected to rise to 156 MTPA by FY26, according to Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Speaking at the Consultative Committee meeting in Mumbai, Sonowal also announced a ₹5,000 crore roadmap for inland waterways development in the Northeast over the next five years.Currently active in 11 states, inland water transport is set to reach 23 states and four UTs by 2027. Coal India Inducts First Made-in-India Electric Rope Shovel
Coal India has commissioned India’s first indigenously developed electric rope shovel at the Nigahi Project of its subsidiary Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. The equipment has been manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers (BEML). The 20-cubic-metre shovel, featuring a high-tensile boom and bucket design, fully air-conditioned ergonomic cabin, and real-time monitoring and diagnostic systems, has an annual production capacity of 4.45 million cubic metres. Maharashtra Clears First Housing Policy in Nearly 20 Years
As per news reports, the Maharashtra cabinet has approved the 2025 Housing Policy, marking the state’s first comprehensive housing roadmap since 2007.
