Liebherr to Invest in Modernising Tower Crane Plant in Biberach

Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH, a global leader in tower and mobile construction cranes, has announced a major modernisation project for its Biberach (Riß) site in Germany. The company will invest a nine-figure sum by 2034 to transform the facility into one of the world’s most advanced crane production plants.

The first phase will see several tens of millions invested in upgrading and expanding the production plant, reflecting Liebherr’s strong commitment to Germany as a manufacturing base and to its skilled local workforce.

Werner Seifried, Managing Director for Development and Production, said, “We are building one of the most state-of-the-art crane production plants in the world. The market is evolving, and we are responding with innovation, automation, and sustainability.”

The phased project will include the demolition and reconstruction of older production halls, dating back to the 1980s, to create a highly automated facility capable of producing around 500 top-slewing cranes, 200 mobile construction cranes, and 3,000 tower sections annually.

Liebherr’s plans integrate economic and environmental sustainability, with energy-efficient buildings, resource-saving production, and modern, ergonomic workspaces for employees. Advanced automation, digital processes, and robotics are already being incorporated into operations.

Globally, Liebherr will strategically align its production network — with Pamplona (Spain) focusing on bottom-slewing cranes and Pune (India) on top-slewing cranes for cost-sensitive markets. The modernisation will be executed in five phases through to 2034, with employees actively involved and trained throughout the transition.

Michael Weißschädel, Managing Director Production, said, “Our investments will deliver not just capacity expansion but a future-ready infrastructure built on quality, safety, and sustainability.”

Dr Dietrich Birk, Managing Director, VDMA Baden-Württemberg, added, “Liebherr’s long-term commitment to Baden-Württemberg sends a strong message that competitiveness and regional responsibility can go hand in hand.”

Gujarat Pushes Biogas Growth With 193 Operational Units

Gujarat has operationalised 193 biogas plants across the state and is planning to add 60 more units as part of a broader push to scale up clean and sustainable energy solutions. The existing plants, established under various government-supported schemes, process organic waste including cattle dung and agricultural residue to produce biogas and a nutrient-rich slurry. The output is mainly used for cooking and other energy needs in rural and semi-urban communities, while also improving local waste management practices. The Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) is leading the initiative and is..
