Vedanta Expands Restora Production at BALCO

Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has expanded its low-carbon product portfolio by commencing production of its Restora range at Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO) in Korba, Chhattisgarh. A subsidiary of Vedanta and a key unit of Vedanta Aluminium, BALCO’s addition of Restora marks a major step in the company’s journey toward achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050.

Restora is produced using renewable energy and features a verified greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity of below 4 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per tonne of aluminium—aligning with global benchmarks for low-carbon aluminium. This strengthens Vedanta Aluminium’s role in decarbonising global supply chains and demonstrates BALCO’s alignment with the group’s broader sustainability agenda.

Vedanta Aluminium’s Jharsuguda smelter has been producing Restora since 2022 and also manufactures Restora Ultra, an ultra-low-carbon variant made using recovered aluminium.

BALCO has begun offering Restora ingots, with plans to expand into additional product forms in line with customer and industry requirements. The move further enhances Vedanta Aluminium’s low-carbon footprint and supports rising demand for sustainable materials across domestic and international markets.

Commenting on the expansion, Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Restora has already set a benchmark in low-carbon aluminium production. Its introduction at BALCO strengthens our commitment to sustainable operations and reinforces India’s emergence as a hub for climate-conscious industrial growth.”

Rajesh Kumar, CEO & Director of BALCO, added, “Restora is designed for industries such as automotive, construction, electricals, packaging, and renewable energy. It enables customers to build greener value chains and accelerate responsible manufacturing. While we begin with Restora ingots, we are fully equipped to introduce value-added offerings under the brand as demand evolves.”

The expansion of Restora production to BALCO is part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader decarbonisation strategy. Through improvements in operational efficiency and increased use of clean energy, the company has achieved an 8.96 per cent reduction in GHG intensity since FY21. Aluminium—often called the metal of the future—remains critical to enabling clean energy systems and sustainable infrastructure.

To support emerging sectors such as electric mobility, renewable energy, infrastructure, and aerospace, Vedanta Aluminium has also established a Centre of Excellence to drive innovation across product development and applications. With Restora, the company continues to deliver low-carbon aluminium that meets the needs of a climate-conscious world while advancing India’s leadership in sustainable manufacturing.
