DDA to allot 2,400 one-bedroom flats to EWS

The Delhi Development Authority built 2,400 one-bedroom flats in Dwarka have been ready for allotment to beneficiaries from the economically weaker sections (EWS). Low-cost housing was the prime focus of the Authority's meeting on August 9, which was chaired by Najeeb Jung, lieutenant governor.

Sources said the Authority is yet to work out a finance model for recovering the cost of these flats, which are priced higher than most EWS projects. While the allotment process is underway, DDA is trying to work out the cost. However, sources revealed that each flat is priced at approximately at Rs 11 lakh. Since DDA has not followed the Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana (RAY) criteria, a source said, the financing of the flats may not fit into RAY or Delhi government guidelines for DUISB-created houses.
