Haldia set to become India´s first green port

The all-weather Haldia port in West Bengal is set to become the country´s first green port soon. The port has eight oil refineries of imported palm oil from Malaysia and it has been using its residue to manufacture 3 lakh litre of bio-diesel. The bio-diesel is used to run railway engines, trucks and other vehicles at the port. The port´s annual capacity is also being augmented to 50 mn tonne from the present 38 mn tonne.
