It was the beginning of ´Mission Chiller´ for lifting and housing 10 chillers. 26 May 2016, a hot summer day in Mumbai, the temperature was already souring at 36oC and humidity at its peak 72 per cent. The hot winds from the sea front were blowing at a speed of 16 km per hour. It was just another day for others at Omkar 1973 Sky Bungalows (the ´Paradiseà!´) project, but for few, it was another action-packed day. Making it easy The challenge for the MEP and safety teams was to lift chillers weighing around 6 tonne each to a height of 67 m and house them at Level-67 of Tower T-One without a single incident in the entire operation. It was the beginning of ´Mission Chiller´ at Omkar 1973 for lifting and housing a total of 10 chillers for T-One (two numbers), T-Two (four numbers) and Podium (four numbers). Ten chillers procured for the project were brought on site as scheduled and, two were to be lifted to Level-67 M of T-One, two to be lifted to Level-41 of T-Two and another two at Level-65, and four to be shifted to the basement temporarily, later to house at Level P-13 of Podiums. It was an easy task - lift it, place it and forget it. What´s so great in it? Isn´t it? It was simple, because each activity, every minor step, including the thickness of the wire rope which was going to be used for lifting the chillers from the ground level to the respective floors, was meticulously planned beforehand, arranged and co-ordinated, precisely taking in to consideration the prevailing climatic conditions, especially the wind force blowing from the sea front, in order to complete the task successfully. Safety focus The safety of people working around was a big concern. Therefore, the selection of equipment, each tool and tackle, and the workers who were to be involved in the entire operation had to be hand-picked. Even a small mistake could result in a big mishap and tarnish the carefully-built and nurtured image of Omkar in a faction of seconds. The entire operation of lifting, shifting and housing the chillers was conceived by Omkar´s MEP and Safety teams jointly, and executed successfully with the assistance of its vendor, Daikin India, and its expert lifters and riggers. Overall, it took five days to shift all the 10 chillers. This continued success saga for lifting and shifting of lift machines at Tower One and Tower-Two weighing 5 tonne each, is yet again an excellent example of collaborative efforts and team work. Indeed, it was Another Day in Paradise...! And, a big round of applause to the Omkar 1973 Project Team, MEP and safety teams and the team of Daikin India!
